The kindergarten class at Immaculate Conception School is led by an
experienced teacher who has been with the school for twenty two years. The class has had an aide for the past eleven years. The
kindergarten’s curriculum encompasses a wide range of subject areas that will
prepare the students for the elementary grades where they will further expand on
their knowledge in these areas. The Religion curriculum focuses on Life,
Creation, Jesus, God’s Family, and various other social issues that are relevant
for that age. The basic math curriculum for the Kindergarten at Immaculate
Conception consists of a series of presentations, recognition and learnings that
utilize subjects such as basic addition and subtraction, learning place value
and graphing. The students in kindergarten use intriguing songs, poems and
stories in their books like Mother Goose Rhymes, Old MacDonald,
and There’s an Alligator Under My Bed to cover points in the Reading
curriculum including context clues, left to right progression and picture
interpretation. In Science, the students cover topics such as plants, the
weather, changing seasons, parts of the body and the food pyramid as a basis for
the curriculum that they will encounter in their future at Immaculate
Conception. Social Studies topics include reading a calendar, the environment,
and locating cities on maps.
