The purpose of the music curriculum is to expose students to many types of
music and composers as well as to develop their vocal abilities and help them
begin to read and understand basic music theory. In the lower grades, we
concentrate on singing and listening to music. We also explore some composers,
including Beethoven, Andrew Lloyd Webber, and Tchaikovsky. We watch clips from
musicals, and listen to tracks from The Nutcracker. In the upper grades, we
study some additional composers, and also supplement the music theory by
learning basic skills on the recorder. This allows students to develop their
listening and music reading skills.
