The sixth grade social studies
curriculum focuses on the ancient world. It begins with a brief study of maps
and examining sources and then concentrates on the early civilizations of the
Mesopotamians, Egyptians, Israelites, Greeks and Romans. A closer look is taken
not only at how they lived their lives during ancient times, but also at the
impact their way of life has had on life as we know it today.
The
seventh and eighth grade social studies curriculum is a two part, thorough study
of American History that begins with a short look at geography and continues on
to the early explorers, the first settlers at Plymouth and Jamestown and the
development of our country as we know it today. The seventh grade focuses mainly
on early American history and the importance of the American Revolution, the
Declaration of Independence, and the Constitution of the United States. The
eighth grade continues on in history with the Civil War, Reconstruction, and the
rise of industry and immigration. They also concentrate on the First World War,
the Great Depression, and the events surrounding World War II.
Hands on
research projects are done by the students to further enhance the knowledge that
is taught in the classroom. Grade six focuses on the architecture of the Ancient
Romans, the seventh grade focuses on dissecting the Declaration of Independence
and grade eight focuses on territories acquired by the United States in the
early 1900s.
